		<description>
	When is a work&#38;nbsp;truly finished? [insert title here] presents an exhibition of eighty-five artists from all eleven majors at Maine College of Art &#38;amp; Design. Representing the culmination of years of dedication, exploration, and skill-building, these installations also mark the beginning of each artist’s path forward. The interdisciplinary pursuits of the Class of 2026 reflect a broader refusal of fixed definition– an insistence on becoming known through freedom of expression rather than explicit naming. In this way, each body of work resists closure, instead embracing ambiguity, transformation, and possibility.Ultimately, [insert title here] suggests that an artistic practice is never truly complete, but is forever a work in progress. &#38;nbsp;

	Wuthering Heights Stage and Prop Design Along with my love of illustration, I also always held the theater very close to my heart. I actually think it has been with me longer than illustration has. It’s a great escape for me when life gets dull or sad, and I need a break from it all. I have worked for many theaters and many shows throughout my life. Whether it's set painting, lighting design, prop making, costumes, makeup, etc, I always want to have my foot in. For my thesis, I wanted to pay homage to my love of theater by creating a hypothetical set piece inspired by the Charlotte Bronte novel, Wuthering Heights. While I love working for directors who already have a solid idea of what they want their shows to look like, I’ve always wondered what a show could be if I called all of the shots for the design. For this project, I read, and reread the novel, watched many a film adaptation, and took notes on everything I needed to make my vision come to life, while also paying tribute to the original source material.

BioSammy Barry is an illustrator from Enfield Connecticut. Drawing had played a huge role in her life, as a means of escape when things got too difficult. While in high school, she enrolled in an afternoon art school in Hartford, CT. This place taught her the specifics of illustration, rather than just the brief overview. She got accepted into a few schools, but MECA called her above the others. She has learned so much about developing her skills as an illustrator, as well as using the skills that she learned from non-illustration classes to help her along the way.

	--.- - -.-. / ...-- ----- //The work is a mess—it shows the hand of an isolated person trying with everything in their power to make sense of their situation, to make sense of their own existence. Through dissections, writings, collages, and various printmaking techniques, I am creating the image of a disjointed body that hovers between the real and unreal, and a person who is trying to fit themself into it all. Within the work, there is the examination of memories, the fear of one’s own hands, the acknowledgement of time, and the desperate question of if anyone else can understand this. The body becomes less of a comfort and more of a stranger, a vessel that holds a person’s entire existence while somehow feeling entirely impersonal. This disconnect between the self and body, and the feelings of being unreal, is something that I constantly ruminate over. These ruminations manifest into a character, into a whole world, becoming another attempt to try and explain these feelings and my own place in existence.

They are calling out to any station, they are known as XHMN, and are asking for anyone to respond.

Bio
Ezekiel Bliss is a printmaker continuously working within various processes, often returning to intaglio, screenprinting, and most recently, cyanotypes. Inspired by artifacts of media culture, ranging from hand written notes and telegraph messages to collectible pin-up cards and directors cut DVDs, Bliss creates small series works that incorporate these concepts. The work encapsulates the strangeness of bodies and the inherent uneasiness when reality starts to become uncanny. Working within the realm of dreams, Bliss explores using surrealist imagery to express these ideas. Bliss creates small snapshot scenes, leaving the viewer with just a small bit of context to interpret.

	Cloudy with a Chance of 31,960,000 Creatures&#38;nbsp;
The natural world has been a source of inspiration and reverence for me for as long as I can remember. One of the ways I engage with this love is speculative biology as it is a mental and creative activity that engages with my knowledge of animals and provides an opportunity for me to learn more.Expanding on an assignment in Animals and Portraiture class here at MECA, Cloudy with a Chance of 31,960,000 Creatures is a repeatable creative exercise utilizing random chance via dice roll to generate a unique combo from a list of 800 hand picked creatures and 100 prompts for the participant to extrapolate off of. The animals chosen for the list where picked under the convention of avoiding the holotypes of more widely known animals or those that exhibit interesting physical or ecological characteristics with the goal of introducing the participant to some of the incredible forms life has taken on our planet.
BioI’m an illustrator and photographer currently based in Portland, Maine. My focus is on biology, environmentalism, and speculative evolution.

The natural world is of great inspiration to my work. It holds a certain level of reverence to me that I try to capture in the pieces I make, as well as be a source to extrapolate off of to create something narratively interesting and biologically feasible within the realm of fiction.

My goal is to spark interest and empathy in life beyond ourselves, whether that be through documenting the intricate beings we share a planet with or exploring the extraordinary possibilities of what could be through illustration.

	Rooted in Play: Tending Joy through Gardening, Memory, and Creativity as ResistanceMy work is rooted in play, which I see not just as a creative impulse but as an essential human right. These hand-built planters and stands explore how playful making and daily acts of care can become gentle forms of resistance against alienation. I press childhood toys into clay, layering bright glazes over textures that invite touch and curiosity. Nurturing these vessels becomes a daily ritual, messy and full of small joys. These planters use simple forms and impressions of toys to evoke nostalgia, but I distort and recombine objects, blurring the line between comfort and the uncanny. In our disconnected modern world, I believe play, memory, and handmade objects can resist anxiety and detachment. Each piece invites you to touch and to play, offering a space where memory and strangeness coexists. When I tend the plants these vessels hold, I honor the daily work of living in a body with its own vulnerabilities and needs, a reminder to myself and others that joy and care are ongoing practices, not destinations.

BioDevyn Brazell is a ceramic artist from Wilmington, Massachusetts, currently based in Portland, Maine, and graduating with a BFA from Maine College of Art &#38;amp; Design in 2026. Their work explores play as a serious creative philosophy and a fundamental human right, treating joy and humor as acts of resistance. Devyn’s current ceramics look at gardening as an accepted adult form of play, asking how being grounded in the physical world can help us stay present when life feels overwhelming and increasingly digital. They argue that play isn't trivial, but crucial to how we live.

	Ixchel RisingIxchel Rising embodies my experience as a Guatemalan Indigenous two-spirit designer living in diaspora in contemporary America. My work reflects my ancestry and uses traditional methods in a modern way to bond with my heritage. I challenge expected stereotypes, values, and attitudes in fashion by carefully selecting materials, using traditional patterns, and contemporizing craft traditions.Textiles are carriers of cultural information. Practicing Indigenous crafts and producing traditional textiles is a form of cultural preservation and a way to process and resist assimilation. In this collection, I used traditional Guatemalan garments, the huipil and corte, as inspirations for my designs and silhouettes. The colorful striping is based on woven cloth patterns in Guatemala, typically done by backstrap weaving. I handwove the cloth as a visual representation of my Indigenous culture.This collection presents traditional practices within a contemporary context and allows me to participate in Indigenous traditions, resistance, and resilience. The inclusion of spiked hardware in the handwoven cloth acts as a tangible form of protection from those who threaten Indigenous identity. In opposition to government policies and ICE raids in America, it feels more urgent and imperative than ever to create work that preserves, highlights, and amplifies culture.

BioTav Brody is a two-spirit artist and designer working in fashion and textiles. Their work challenges and explores societal expectations and boundaries through concepts and techniques tied to their Indigenous Guatemala heritage. Their work merges traditional craft techniques with modern silhouettes in garment form.

	The Garden of the EavesDeath is the pinnacle of nature and yet we run from it. Humans have developed a superiority complex one of domination and power, a way to deny the inevitability of our end. Upon death we lose our bodily autonomy, returning to the earth, reminded of the nature of our flesh. We use too much, dig too deep. We exploit, we colonize, we destroy. We deny that we are animals. Yet we have the opportunity to participate in complex, involved relationships when we stop viewing “nature” as something apart from us, as objects or resources to be taken advantage of. By listening to the language of non-human beings, by learning from the intelligence of the insects and the dexterity of the spiders we can reconfigure our relationship with the earth and all its inhabitants. I monumentalize these tiny creatures. They are the backbone of the ecosystem. We must tend the garden. Feel small. Remove yourself from the pedestal we’ve built.

BioEleanor Brown is a multimedia sculptor and painter who forages both materials and inspiration from the natural world. Excited by the unsettling and wild, she translates this fascination into sculptures of creatures that emerge from steel and foraged wood. As an artist who draws much of her practice from the earth, the climate crisis is an issue she addresses often, celebrating biodiversity and critiquing the destruction of natural habitats. When not in the studio, she can be found in the dark woods at night, sifting through rocks and sand on the beach, or searching her basement for insects and spiders.

	Dear DiaryAs a metalsmith and poet, Dear Diary is a body of work that encapsulates the metaphors and poems from my journal. Bound within metal and glass, I create symbolic animal-inspired vessel forms dedicated to holding emotion and spirit. These handmade containers highlight the framing of colorful cloisonné enamels; representative of animals native to New England—where my heart resides. In a configuration of copper, silver, nickel, and enamel, each piece is a physical creation inspired by my journaling practice. Written words that capture the core of my heart are translated into whimsical and humorous containers, offering a place to house the emotions I find tangled within. Holding both the tangible and the emotional, these containers not only carry candles, matches, flowers, and plants… but the memory and intention within our hearts.
BioBrooke Brunelle is a metalsmith, enamelist, and poet based in New England. She received her BFA in Metalsmithing &#38;amp; Jewelry from Maine College of Art &#38;amp; Design in 2026. In a configuration of copper, silver, nickel, and enamel, her work is inspired by her journaling practice. Brunelle translates her poetry into hand-fabricated lockets and vessels dedicated to the heart; paperless journals bound in metal and glass. Using nature's metaphorical symbols for the emotions that live and breathe within our hearts, Brunelle aims to encapsulate emotional experiences within her work. The things we desire, what drives us, devastates us, and everything in between.
