Wuthering Heights Stage and Prop Design
Along with my love of illustration, I also always held the theater very close to my heart. I actually think it has been with me longer than illustration has. It’s a great escape for me when life gets dull or sad, and I need a break from it all. I have worked for many theaters and many shows throughout my life. Whether it's set painting, lighting design, prop making, costumes, makeup, etc, I always want to have my foot in. For my thesis, I wanted to pay homage to my love of theater by creating a hypothetical set piece inspired by the Charlotte Bronte novel, Wuthering Heights. While I love working for directors who already have a solid idea of what they want their shows to look like, I’ve always wondered what a show could be if I called all of the shots for the design. For this project, I read, and reread the novel, watched many a film adaptation, and took notes on everything I needed to make my vision come to life, while also paying tribute to the original source material.
Bio
Sammy Barry is an illustrator from Enfield Connecticut. Drawing had played a huge role in her life, as a means of escape when things got too difficult. While in high school, she enrolled in an afternoon art school in Hartford, CT. This place taught her the specifics of illustration, rather than just the brief overview. She got accepted into a few schools, but MECA called her above the others. She has learned so much about developing her skills as an illustrator, as well as using the skills that she learned from non-illustration classes to help her along the way.
