Double Dog Dare You

Double Dog Dare You is a series of photographic and video works about the power of friendship for women and femmes. Reflecting on cultural symbols such as the Jackass movies and TV series, Double Dog Dare You examines the unequal access to play for men and women. In the wake of sexual and physical violence at the hands of men, this body of work explores the gendered systems of play, stupidity, and access to fun and safety under patriarchal powers.

The moving images and stills may seem silly, but the fact that they can be made without threat is what is important. This work was made in a time when the feminine body needed to be humorous again; the body had to be funny, as it had previously been treated. Going back to a community that could be trusted, where under any and all circumstances, all would be safe and free. It may be ridiculous to consider mooning friends a step toward healing, but it is true.

Bio

Did you know that you can make wine in your closet? All you need is a gallon of
grape juice, some yeast, and a little bit of time. There’s only a 3⁄4 chance that you'll get very sick, but there’s a 100% chance you'll get tipsy. I learned that with my girls at a sleepover.

There was puke everywhere.

Normally, you don't know what girls do at sleepovers, but I could show you if you’d like. We tend to keep secrets, so you’d be lucky to see. Fair warning, I'm a pervert, and a troublemaker. Dang
