Pet Effect

Pet Effect is a wordless 2D animated short film based on personal experiences of dealing with anxiety, and the positive effects of an emotional support animal (ESA). The film is designed to put the viewer in the shoes of the character to see and feel the effects of anxiety through a first person perspective. It is meant to show that anxiety does not always have a direct cause or catalyst, and that sometimes it just is with no apparent rhyme or reason. The film portrays the relief the emotional support animal brings to the main character, allowing the person to focus on the dog rather than continuing to drown in their feelings alone. Pet Effect is an animated recreation of my personal experience dealing with anxiety, how it's always there, often seeming abrupt and without cause, and what it's like to have my dog Toast there to mitigate and alleviate it.

Bio

Grace ‘Aryn’ Keane is a 2D generalist whose main focus is storyboarding, character animation, character design, and background design.

Collaborative films they have worked on are “Look Both Ways” by ARG Productions and “In Your Shadow” by Studio JAAMS — both films having won the Best Character Animation award at the Maine College of Art & Design Film Festival in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Their storyboard “There’s a Human on You” also won best animatic at the same 2024 festival.

With Studio JAAMS they have made two more films since then and hope to make many more films both collaboratively and individually.
