Evelyn Prudence White
Prudence
As a daughter, at a certain formative age, you realize that before your mother became a mother she was a woman, and before that, a girl. At twenty-four, my mother was pregnant with me, standing in her wedding dress, with the face we share. Her body, hair, features were the same. I have watched this body, our body, change over time. I have a heightened sense of the ticking clock of my body, my youth. As a daughter, my mother’s body is a timeline of my own.Bio
Evelyn White is senior photo major at the Maine College of Art & Design, and will receive her BFA in photography in 2026.White spent her childhood in rural Maine, where you had to drive to see a neighbor, your driveway is a half a mile long dirt road, and everyone is very old. She believed in fairies, loved picture books, and collecting almost anything.
She spent a lot of her youth alone and bored, a recipe for creativity and a wandering mind. Evelyn always received art supplies for Christmas. She discovered her love for photography in high school and got her first camera from a local artist who saw her potential.
She is fascinated by the people she is close with, especially her mother, whom she photographs habitually. She sees herself reflected in her mother physically and through a shared female experience.
White lives in Portland ME. When she isn't taking photos or making videos, she is working at Becky’s Diner, meowing at cats in strangers’ windows, antiquing, or terrorizing her family.
