Sensations of the Unseen
At what point do words fail to fully capture what we feel and endure? When does the slipping of time and reality, the strangling effects of a panic attack, the compulsive counting down to pain relief, or the calamity of head pain, escape description? This is a collection of multifaceted experiences: simulations of living with invisible disabilities. These pieces transcribe sensations through video, light, and sound. I prescribe your movement through space and into these enclosures, each containing the feelings of unseen, everyday illness.
Bio
Eugene McIntire grew up in Yardley, Pennsylvania, with too many siblings. He is currently based in Portland, Maine, studying for his BFA in Sculpture at the Maine College of Art & Design. Despite this, he constantly daydreams about moving to Denmark. He won the ‘Recycled Arts Competition’ in 2023 and participated in group exhibitions such as ‘Test Site’ and ‘Co-Lab.’ While sculpting is his primary focus, he also enjoys creating functional works in ceramics, textiles, and metalsmithing. Outside of art, Eugene can often be found bed-rotting with a migraine, collecting shiny pebbles, or experimenting with new baking recipes at 3 am.
