Collection for Recollection, Held in My Chest of Drawers

The things I keep around me, that fill up my home and spill from my dresser drawers, are infused with the memories of the time that I move through. They seep into the soles of my shoes, dirtying the rubber, and it stays just underneath me as I travel. I walk across beaches, my footsteps landing in the same strip of sand where the waves crash, and I take home a shell, or a smooth stone. I laugh and eat with friends, and take home notes and gifts. I wander through carpets of grasses that weave themselves into a meadow, and I take flowers to press between book pages and hang bouquets of on the walls of my room. I find that, over time, my home fills up with gifts and trinkets, lining windowsills and stacking up on shelves. Collection for Recollection, Held in My Chest of Drawers considers the memory that is infused into everyday objects, and furniture as the vessel that contains and organizes it. 

Bio

Carolyn Day grew up in Watkinsville, Georgia, climbing trees and tying clover chains. Her paintings often utilize found furniture objects as surface, and explore memories of precious, personal spaces and objects and the joy and love that these images hold.

When she is not painting, she is often off hiking through a forest, collecting strange objects off the side of the road, or cooking a meal for her lovely friends. She also enjoys the comforts of her home and can be found lazing around with her darling cat, Posie.
