A Body of Many Parts

I maintain the belief that the body is constantly being imprinted on, whether that be by places travelled, people met, or thoughts had. A Body of Many Parts is an exercise in choreography and formation. I configure objects in space to investigate how identity materializes, while bearing witness to a process of self-discovery that emerges from the objects in context with one another. This act of witnessing informs my own self-understanding. I yearn to comprehend how experiences are held within the body.
My sculptures synthesize bodily experience, which I convey through found and constructed material. Assemblage and casting underscores the importance of memory; I compound material and reproduce objects in an attempt to link internal and external realities. The process of casting, changing an object’s materiality, is a cathartic act: a plastic In-N-Out lid transforms into an aluminum medallion, a work glove with outstretched fingers becomes a plaster statue, and a plaster foot with in-line skate wheels hardens into iron. These objects are parts of my body that exist just outside of myself.

Bio

Cam Fox is a sculptor from Acton, Massachusetts. Growing up with an extensive stuffed animal collection, Cam’s accumulative tendencies inform his sculptural approach. His sculptures explore the way experiences are held and processed within the body. Cam’s ideal day consists of wearing wrinkly pants and searching for trinkets in thrift stores that fit in the palm of his hand and close to his heart. He daydreams about playing a sport again.
