The Calm After the Storm

The calm after the storm, experiencing something that is life changing and the recovery process that comes after. A calm refers to the stark shift of mind that happens. Not necessarily a positive or negative but space to reflect and feel the wide range of emotions that healing brings. A state of processing, connecting, and going back to the basics. It includes reaching out for support, focusing on what you have learned and appreciating the aspects of life that get lost.

I layer bright colors and illustrate motifs of plants and animals, and patterns inspired by Polynesian Tapa to express my appreciation for nature and how it has helped me through hardships. I become grounded within every line painted, finding new connections through telling stories through symbols. Through my artwork I embrace the feeling of discomfort, navigating mental health, and the meditative process of slowing down and being present through ceramic processes.
