Bluffburrow

Bluffburrow is a partially cooperative board game that focuses on interpersonal relationships and crafting a communal narrative around the premise of collective social deduction.

Many children are ravenous for horror, ghost stories, and monsters under the bed. As a child, I was no exception. While I shied away from horror in the more traditional sense, I was fascinated by telling stories of things that went bump in the night. One way of telling these stories that I’ve always adored is board games. In a game, the delivery of the horror is placed entirely onto the players, making it simple to establish boundaries, pushing and pulling wherever they see fit.

I grew up in a small northern Maine town, born into a family that has lived there for generations. I don’t often make work about my upbringing, but where I was inspired by my childhood interests, it felt correct. New England itself is home to no shortage of hauntings, and many spooky stories about small, rural towns follow the trope of the false idyllic – and idyllic is what New England is known for. As a backdrop it allows me to beg the question:

How well do you really know your neighbors?

Bio

Adelle Smith is an illustrator who focuses primarily on traditional mediums, but has a passion for digital work that she often indulges in. He delights in the challenge of creating works that strike the balance between warmth and softness, and the creepy and grim, and finds himself eternally drawn to subject matter that embraces both themes equally.
